We are strong and Christ gave us the spiritual weapons…

Sucker Punch, Theme

Watching a movie and reading books is more than about the glitz and glamour for me. I like to take from it the hard lessons that many of us ignore.

Then apply it to my own life.

For instance, I watched Sucker Punch on DVD last night and realized that the movie is about more than girls living in a state of fear who dream of being these radical, warrior super pretty chics.

The movie was about using what we already possess. If you have not seen the movie, rent it and come back to this discussion J

They say we have the weapons…

Alright. So at the conclusion of the movie there was a theme: “You already have the weapons you need…now fight!”

The weapons the girl needed were varied and many of them were weapons they had inside themselves.

But the message was so important; it immediately brought to my mind Ephesians 6:11 in the bible where we are told to put on the “full armor of God”

The figurative arsenal includes:

Belt of truth (v. 14)

Breastplate of righteousness (v. 14)

Feet/Gospel of peace (v. 15)

Shield of faith (v. 16)

Helmet of salvation (v. 17)

Sword of the spirit (v. 17)

These are the weapons we are given once we accept Christ as our Lord and Savior. Yet many of us act like we don’t have any power over the enemy at all. Granted, some things we can not control.

But the Lord told us to stand.

This is why this will be a two part post.

For now, remember that the girls in Sucker Punch all came from messed up families and backgrounds and were at the mercy of a mental institution. The enemy wants us to believe we are nothing, weak, and powerless.

We are everything in Christ, strong, and powerful. If you have to remind yourself of this every morning in your meditation time- do so.

The next post will be on dissecting our arsenal and the purpose of each weapon.

Feel free to post your comments here. We’d love to hear from you!
