The world is so cold.
It is very cold and very dark and very real- and…
Very needy of a Savior.
A couple of events happened this week that hurt families and once again brings us back to the question: Where is God in all of this?
Some believers have adopted a whole new mentality: “Why witness to others when folks do not want to hear about Christ and the world is so violent…”
First of all, serious and heartfelt condolences to those who have lost someone during these twin tragedies(Boston Explosion and Iran-Pakistan Quake) and my prayers go out to Believers as well who are beginning to sink into despair and wallow in “comfort zones” because the Gospel is wildly unpopular at a time like this.
Let us get one thing very straight and very clear: Abandoning the mission is a NO-NO. I do not care how bleak it is or how many people say they don’t care about the Gospel message. Their messages are sent out to us everywhere, is it not? So then Mark 16: 15-18 says,
He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation. Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues; they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well.”(NIV)
We are called to do more than sit home and pray and protect our own families. That is NOT biblical. Whoever tries to save their life will lose it…(Mark 8:35). Anyway, here goes:
Jesus gave some commands to the 11. At this point you may be thinking, “Yeah, he gave them the command. Not me.” It applies to all believers and anyway the first command is the hardest to obey: Go. Go where? Into all the world. And do what? Preach. To who? All creation. The first line is extremely clear what is supposed to happen. Now if your money is funny, then traveling the world is out of the stars for you- so how about your own neighborhood? Have you encouraged someone today or shared the Good News?
So you still think this isn’t about you? Why- because the Bible is published? You think Jesus commands are no longer standing just because the pages we have bound here makes it seems as if the Word has ceased? Faith comes by hearing the Word of the Lord and each of the Disciples and Apostles had flaws in the beginning and even during their walk. They are simply people who have decided to follow Christ.
Haven’t you decided to follow him?
So the Great Mission is for you as well. Praying is great. Humbling ourselves is great. Tithing and offerings is okay, but why stop there?
If the world is getting worse that means now is the time more than ever to encourage someone with His Word. We aren’t dead yet and I don’t care if it feels like tribulation times. Souls are being delivered everyday so keep to the mission. I know it is hard and I remember only witnessing a few times in my life, with shaky hands and stumbling over words-worrying over someone’s reaction.
But with a bold husband, the Holy Spirit on my side and knowing there are souls to be won, I will press through it.
You can too.
