If our bellies were full

If our bellies were full…

We can slim to  fat smiles

Endure  long walks for miles

And take in the simple pleasure of

Gaining weight

Because then we’re gaining

Ground in having

Meat

Veggies

Fruit

And any edible thing you can supply us

If our bellies were full

We can fall over and laugh and

Have arms to roll us to bed: fat, dumb, and happy

A necessary gluttony

If our bellies were full

Our minds could trek elsewhere to:

Memory games, first love, and school

If our bellies were full…

*This poem is inspired by those who need to eat but cannot afford to.
