So that no man can boast, an example from Ichigo in ‘Bleach’ anime

Ichigo from BleachIt amazes me how God can make something out of nothing or out of what confounds the wise.

In my Scripture reading today, I found this: “Not many of you were wise by human standards; not many were influential; not many were of noble birth. But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. He chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things- and the things that are not- to nullify the things that are…”(1 Corinthians 1:26-28 NIV)

I thought about the anime, Bleach I just started watching(Be Warned: I may use this anime more often in the future to explain concepts and make connections.) Anyway, in the anime, Ichigo is a fifteen year old who can see spirits or if you prefer, ghosts.

He comes from a family of two sisters and a loony father- his mother is dead. So Ichigo has his crazy life and from the onset we see he is just a normal kid outside of his strange ability. Enter Rukia Kuchiki and things get interesting. She is a soul reaper and during a scuffle with a Hollow she gives the majority of her powers to Ichigo.

From there he taps into even more power than he already had. He  was able to break free from one of her binding prayers or spells earlier which means he was born with something amazing.

What does all of this mean?

Well, as Believers we are still in a battle that is not flesh and blood, but of spiritual forces and evil(Ephesians 6: 12). God can take our fears and our doubts and still cloak us with armor in this spiritual war. The Lord has breathed life into us and if we have accepted Jesus Christ, we have the Holy Spirit within us- a piece of the power to heal, destroy demons, to love unconditionally, and the power to do whatever the Lord has equipped us to do.

He can use anyone for the uplifting of his kingdom. There are preachers who preached while still young(i.e. Martin Luther King, Jr.), kids who can sing beautiful songs and play the piano, and other people who we consider too young, too weak or too different.

God gets the glory from the fact that he can use Anyone so that ” no man can boast”.
